It is
a world-wide epidemic: low vitamin D levels. 14 in every 100 people around the world has poor
vitamin D levels. (1) One study reports that it
affects 1 billion of us worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is linked
to a varied range of diseases. Raising
vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is followed.
Manahawkin Chiropractic Center encourages our Manahawkin chiropractic patients to know
and improve as necessary their vitamin D levels.
Manahawkin Chiropractic Center is confident that positive health benefits
will follow from this effort.
DISEASES LINKED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS
A rampant vitamin D deficiency is correlated
with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic,
colorectal, kidney, breast
is related to low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic
arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional
vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are as well.
(1, 2, 3) Vitamin D plays a key role in calcium
homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular
and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-related
to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) It responds well to vitamin
D3 supplementation. Testing
for the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test
as to the effectiveness of the treatment. (4) Manahawkin Chiropractic Center
notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also identified
as being influenced by vitamin D status too. Manahawkin
chiropractic care at Manahawkin Chiropractic Center benefits Manahawkin chiropractic
patients with these conditions.
BENEFITS OF IMPROVING VITAMIN D LEVELS
Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D
is shown to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose
that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just
depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit
disorder, and autism. (1) Providing a daily same
dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients on day one through day 21 alleviates
symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) Manahawkin Chiropractic Center acknowledges how
these benefits are worth the work our Manahawkin
chiropractic patients would undertake to raise
poor vitamin D levels.
HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS
A study of healthy young women showed that taking
calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of
vitamin D by patients with levels of greater than 20
ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels raise. The rise was seen
in the first month
of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. A thought-provoking side observation in this study: It’s difficult
to get people to do what is recommended! Only 67 of the 106
study women did what they were to do for the three months of the
study! (6)
