Frankincense and myrrh, two esteemed
gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable
partners in healing! Both have been used
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, especially
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties
deal with issues with many different health
conditions, many that Manahawkin Chiropractic Center sees in our Manahawkin chiropractic patients who may
want to know more!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine esteems frankincense
and myrrh for their wide-ranging helpful
health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are parts of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of
cancers with the newest research revealing
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By regulating
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting
the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was decreased, and pathological structure was reduced
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated
urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh combo is a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Manahawkin Chiropractic Center appreciates combinations of
treatments to help our Manahawkin chiropractic patients looking for
healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a serious
problem of diabetes and cause of kidney disease,
by controlling pathways involved in the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described
as having the ability to stimulate blood and disperse
blood stasis. The combination
was tested and found to reduce neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Manahawkin Chiropractic Center
knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting
to understand as in depth as this, but we want to share
the whole picture if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
