Have you wondered what care is effective for a bout of Manahawkin neck pain? More specifically, how chiropractic treatment results compare to other forms of available medical care? Well, here is an outcome study to answer this question!
Researchers compared chiropractic care to medication and intense exercise advice for neck pain relief. The participants were 272 adults with non-specific neck pain for an average of 7 weeks. They were randomized to one of three groups:
- spinal manipulation with knowledgeable chiropractors (like our very own Manahawkin chiropractor at Manahawkin Chiropractic Center!) for an average of 15 visits over 3 months
- medication with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen, or both (Some progressed to narcotic analgesia and muscle relaxants if their doctor thought that was appropriate.) for an average of 5 visits
- 2 hours of extensive education on home exercise to do 5 to 10 reps of each exercise 8 times a day.
Like most Manahawkin neck pain patients, medications aren’t always the favored option. The chiropractic or exercise option proves better. In this study, pain was reduced significantly better with the chiropractic care or exercise than the medical treatment. The pain scores and the percent of people whose pain reduced at least 50% were better with exercise or chiropractic for neck pain relief. (1)
And get this, even in more severe neck injuries, conservative care without surgery was found to reduce disc herniations in the neck and to improve the pain and spinal cord damage caused by neck injuries. (2) Are you excited? We are! Manahawkin Chiropractic Center’s neck pain relief treatment plan is conservative, gentle and safe.
