GENTLE IS BEST
Chronic low back pain responds
more positively to gentle spinal manipulation than more forceful. A new
research paper conveys that for chronic low back pain
patients, gentle flexion-distraction (aka Cox® Technic) is superior to high
velocity low amplitude thrust (HVLA), a common form of manipulation. The
randomized clinical trial found via several different tests that
flexion distraction increased patient Visual Analog Scale ratings
of pain along with Oswestry Disability Index
ratings of disability. The bottom line is that for chronic low back pain
patients, flexion distraction produced more
improvements in pain and function than HVLA. (1) It is not
surprising that Manahawkin Chiropractic Center appreciates Cox®
Technic! It is gentle and useful for chronic
back pain as well as neck pain, sciatica, radicular arm
pain and many more spine pain conditions.

CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: B Vitamins Vital Through All Life Stages
Manahawkin chiropractic patients: Pay attention to your folate and B-vitamin status throughout life! Your Manahawkin
chiropractor is here for you. Folic acid (vitamin B9) is suggested
to all pregnant women to decrease the risk of neural tube defects
in babies. Low vitamin
B12 status is associated with a higher risk
of cognitive dysfunction, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. For some
people, ensuring ideal vitamin B status
may be harder than for others. Older folks just don’t
absorb it optimally. A genetic variant (MRHFR) that is
a common folate B9 polymorphism is related to conditions
like stroke. Good news! Of late a unique
interaction with riboflavin (vitamin B2) reduces the risk of
hypertension. (2) How is your B status? Shall we
check that out together? Manahawkin Chiropractic Center will be ready to answer all
your questions about vitamin B and spinal nutrition.
